GET LASHED IN THE UK
Lisa Lashes
Resist (Audio CD) - Jan 31, 2005
|
| |
Lisa Lashes and her Lashed events have been two of underground dance musics biggest success stories in 2004. The worlds leading female DJ has seen both her standing and legions of fans increase yet further, whether through her own relentless international touring or the Lashed nights that have meant sold-out venues across the UK and Ireland. Along the way, Lisa has attracted plenty of headlines from an airport arrest to DJing to 30,000 Hells Angels not something you would immediately expect from someone who grew up as a Jehovahs Witness.
A new generation of clubbers have flocked in their thousands to these Lashed parties (recent crowds at Londons SE One and Heaven alone total over 5000), drawn by the opulent production, attention to detail, and the sheer spectacle that greets them, finding inside them a new, intoxicating alternative to bland clubs, tired discos, and the outdated r n b joints marred by violence, sexism and pseudo-gangsta posturing.
Musically, Lashed has received critical acclaim from many quarters for giving its followers something markedly different (Time Out, Evening Standard). Alongside hard dances main attractions have been line-ups featuring the cream of breaks, techno, and house. Bills featuring Lisa, BK, Dave Angel, Ali B, Freq Nasty, The Freestylers and many others would have been unthinkable a year or so ago Lashed has made them a reality and made the kind of commitment to diversity that makes Camden council look like a Texan legislature.
To celebrate the Lashed phenomenon Lisa has joined forces with one of the worlds greatest compilation labels, Resist (formerly React), to release this album. Lashed In The UK is a defining moment in the clubs continuing evolution, and offers a chance for those who have yet to experience the events to hear what all the fuss is about. Lisas mix, spread across two cds, is a forward-looking journey into techno, hard dance, and the pioneering dirty breaks sound shes become renowned for.
RELEASED 31 JANUARY

SLINKY GOES TRANS-ATLANTIK
Various Artists
Slinky (Audio CD) - Oct 18, 2004 |
| |
On 18 th October , the new wave of Slinky compilation is upon us. This new 3xCD album has captured everything that is magnificent about Slinky – from jaw dropping photographs of euphoric clubbers (every one of its 35,000 members are listed by name!!!), to the superb soundtracks that you hear at every Slinky night. Trans-Atlantik has all the makings of another Gold selling album.
Get ready for tracks such as Tilt ‘The World Doesn't Know' through to ‘Rock Steady' by the Drumattic Twins… Trans-Atlantik takes you through the twisting inferno that is a night at Slinky . Expertly mixed by residents Dave Lea , Tim Lyall and ex Gatecrasher headliner Scott Bond , Trans-Atlantik makes one thing very clear to the listener – the pure power of music is what rams this club to capacity week after week. Tracks like ‘ Intruder' by Armin vs M.I.K.E and GTR's ‘Flood Control' define the sound that is taking Slinky into 2005, continually breaking club anthems and providing a soundtrack to our lives.
Those Opera House people will dazzle you with the exceptional offerings ‘ Ballerina' by Adam White and ‘ Ballroom Dancer' by the One Man Army in a compilation that will lay down the doctrine that is continually drawing ever increasing numbers of eager clubbers to Slinky , now firmly established as the UK's favourite club.
To date Slinky have sold well in excess of 500,000 albums and Slinky knows more than anyone that it takes more than a DJ and a box of records to build a ground breaking club. You need an amazing venue with a crowd of open minded and determined clubbers that are prepared to spend their weekend under the strobes, giving their all for the music and their DJs.
Slinky is the epitome of this ethos. It has emerged through seven years of great competition and twelve album releases as a milestone club that has maintained the standards and trends of the new club culture.
The album is an awesome tribute to the legend that is Slinky and is definitely the most played album in the Contagious Clubwear CD player at the moment.
If you are into dancemusic this is an absolute must for your collection

Palookaville
Fat Boy Slim
Astralwerks (Audio CD) - October 5, 2004 |
| |
The undisputed master of big beat boutique is back with another monster album to follow up the massively successful “Halfway Between The Gutter And The Stars”.
Any fans of the piano filled, gospel refrains that only Fat Boy Slim can stylishly deliver will be more than pleased at this return to the tried and tested formula that rocketed the man to stardom in the late 1980’s.
With the astounding recent worldwide success of the album track “Slash Dot Dash”, and the likes of “Jin Go Lo Ba” – which samples Jellybean’s 1988 house tune “Jingo”, the album excitingly combines newfound breadth and maturity whilst delivering on those trademark ‘block-rockin’ beats.
The album opens with the piano laden “Don’t Let the Man” that implies that “all the long haired freaky people need not apply” and gives you a never ending wait for the big bass drums to kick in, followed up nicely with the snarling surf guitar of the acclaimed “Slash Dot Dash” which should have you bouncing about the front room by the time it finishes.
The experience includes some trademark beach party anthems including the Latino shake of “Wonderful Night”, and the Electro Funk filled “El Bebe Masoquista”, but includes some mellower tracks such as romantic swayer “North West Three”, which was dedicated to wife Zoe Ball, and the plinky hobo ditty “Put It Back Together” which must take some credit from Norman Cooks recent “Think Tank” venture with Blur.
Meanwhile, the moody sub-bass rumble of "Long Way From Home" and road movie rocker "Push and Shove" find the middle ground and demonstrate that Cook's imagination is as active as ever with the album finishing off in style with a fun, slap-bass version of Steve Miller Band's "The Joker" which was mixed with old pal Bootsy Collins.
With the album rapidly heading for a top 10 album placing and an already sold out UK tour underway, the phenomenon that is Fat Boy Slim just goes from strength to strength.
A top album that is testament to one of the kings of the UK dance scene.
A must for music enthusiasts everywhere

Gatecrasher
Present Crasher Live in Amsterdam & Kuala Lumpur
Various Artists mixed by
Marco V & Scott Bond.
Gatecrasher (Audio CD) March 22, 2004 |
| |
| We are big fans of Gatecrasher here at Contagious, and we were not disappointed by this release, lots of original and un-released tracks, and a lot less cheese than some of its rivals which is always good.
The Album features some impeccable mixing from two club legends with
a crisp and clear recording that stands being played quite loud.
It is a live recording which features the crowds of Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur
Music featuring Scirocco, Boss@nova, Scott Bond vs Solarstone, Egyptian Empire, Ortz, Marco V vs Jens, Matt Darey + more.
It is available in a special digipack format with a 16 page booklet event diary. Also includes crasher and classic GC ringtones inside.
This is definitely aimed at the trance enthusiast rather than the more
commercial clubber, features some great mixing and top tunes and gets
a big thumbs up from us.
There is a nice mix of current club stuff along with a few new tracks including the awesome stupdisco from Junior Jack and a banging Marco V remix of Age of love.

Cream Classics
[BOX SET] Various Artists
Cream
(Audio CD) July 12, 2004 |
| |
With
so much rubbish barging it’s way onto the
scene these days in the form of cheesy euro trance
and slipshod commercial house it’s nice that
a compilation can come along and remind you that
some of the great house tunes of the last 10 years
really wipes the floor with most of the music around
today.
The first Cream compilation in nearly a year. The
album was released on the 12th July and went straight
to number 2 in the compilation charts. The tracklisting
includes classic anthems from the Cream era, from
1992 - 2004.
There
are some real anthems on this 3 CD boxset such
as Robin S ‘Show Me Love’, Gat Décor’s
‘Passion’ and K-Klass' 'Rhythm is
a Mystery' that remind you just what quality music
has been actually made over the years.
This
is mostly house anthems and doesn’t have
much for the hardened trance lover but stills
delivers a well mixed compilation of tracks that
have appeared on Cream's compilations and dancefloor.

Various Artists
Slinky
(Audio CD) June 12, 2000 |

This
is a bit of an old one but is still well worth the
review, it’s Slinky’s Factor 3, another
permanent edition in my CD player, an epic release
of mind blowing trance by the Club of all Clubs.
With the strength of Slinky’s appeal never
waining in clubland, and some exciting things on
the horizon what better way to celebrate the success
of
the Slinky name then to release an album of pure
club anthems.
